From Classroom to Canvas: Allison Adonizio’s Artistic Evolution

Hi, everyone! I’m Allison Adonizio, an artist who has been practicing for about 10 years now. I graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA in Painting and Drawing in 2013. My work has ranged from oil paintings to mixed media pieces, but my current focus is on oil painting.

When I first started out, I was really into the idea of using my artwork to create social change. This was mainly because I was very political in college, and I wanted to use my art to make a difference in the world. After I graduated, I realized that making art for the sake of making art isn’t actually that interesting or fulfilling. So, I shifted my focus to communicating my ideas through my paintings and drawings.

Now, my paintings are all about communicating my thoughts and feelings. I try to evoke a reaction in my viewers, whether it’s happiness, sadness, or anger. I also like to use symbolism in my work, in order to communicate a deeper message.

It has come to my attention that I am about to die.

I am not making this up.

I am not kidding.

I am actually going to die.

I am in my early thirties and I have been told that I have cancer.

I am not sure how to feel about this.

On the one hand, I am scared.

On the other hand, I am excited.

I am not sure why.

I am just scared.

I am scared because I do not know what is going to happen.

I am scared because I do not know who is going to take care of my dog.

I am scared because I do not know what is going to happen to my car.

I am scared because I do not know what is going to happen to me.

I am scared because I do not know what is going to happen to my house.

I am scared because I do not know what is going to happen to my life.

But on the other hand, I am excited because I am about to die.

I am excited because I am about to go to a place where I do not have to worry about anything.
